اعداد و شمار کے مطابق دنیا بھر میں سب سے زیادہ چائے درآمد کرنے والا ملک روس اور مصر دوسرا بڑا درآمد کنندہ ملک ہے۔ اقتصادی اور طبی ماہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ سالانہ 2لاکھ ٹن چائے کی درآمد سے نہ صرف قیمتی زرمبادلہ کا ضیاع ہورہا ہے بلکہ چائے کے استعمال سے صحت پر بھی منفی اٖثرات مرتب ہورہے ہیں ۔انہوں نے کہا کہ چائے کی درآمدات میں کمی کے لیے ملک میں چائے کی پیداوار کی فروغ سے قیمتی زرمبادلہ کے بچت کے اقدامات کی ضرورت ہے۔ پاکستان چائے کی ملکی ضروریات پوری کرنے کے لیے دنیا کے 21ملکوں سے چائے درآمد کرتا ہے، جن میں کینیا، انڈونیشیا، بھارت، بنگلہ دیش اور سری لنکا سرفہرست ہیں۔
